FC Bayern: Thomas Müller unpacks over extra time

Thomas Müller apparently only decided to stay at FC Bayern during the current season.

“In the summer and fall I felt that I could still rely on my body. So the decision to play another year was made for me. I love competition and the will to win is still the same strong as before,” wrote the 2014 world champion in his email newsletter. “It was all the better for me that I had discussions with FC Bayern before the winter break and we extended my contract for another year.”

The negotiations were “characterized by mutual appreciation,” enthused Müller. “For me it is now even more liberating that my sporting future has already been clarified and I can put my full focus on football.”

According to reports, Müller initially made the decision to end his career with the home European Championships next year, but then rejected it. His new contract with the German record champions runs until June 30, 2025.

“The Champions League final at home in 2025 is also a big motivation for me. With Bayern’s soul, it’s a dream and a realizable one. We don’t have to play the lottery for it,” wrote Müller.

FC Bayern: BVB duel an “extreme emotional situation”

The veteran described the close title duel against Borussia Dortmund last season as an “extreme emotional situation of a positive kind”. “This has rarely happened before in drama. As a player, I have never been involved in something like this,” continued Müller.

Jamal Musiala’s winning goal at 1. FC Köln and the seconds after the final whistle with a view to the outcome of the BVB game against Mainz (2:2) are something he will “never forget for the rest of his life,” said the experienced professional. “Pure football excitement.”

In the fight for the championship against the sovereign league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, Müller sees FC Bayern “currently in the somewhat unusual role of the hunter”. However, the team has “a lot planned” for the second half of the season, both in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
