Thomas Müller will leave FC Bayern as a professional in summer after 17 years. The contract expiring at the end of the season will not be extended. The 35-year-old announced this on Saturday on social media. But he will still be there at the club World Cup.
“However, the association has deliberately decided not to negotiate a new contract for the next season. Even if this did not meet my personal wishes, it is important that the club follows its beliefs. I respect this step that the board and supervisory board must not be made easy,” wrote Müll. He had “well imagined” to continue.
“I feel the appreciation for my long time at FC Bayern and I feel deeply joy to have been running 25 incredibly intensive years for my heart club. I will be connected to FC Bayern and with you forever. Now the full focus is now on our sporting season. I will give it all! ” As the club announced, both parties have agreed that Müller will be there at the club World Cup, which takes place in the USA from June 15 to July 13.
According to reports, Müller heard from the Bayern bosses that they had to continue working on saving salaries. The 2014 world champion allegedly deserves up to 17 million euros a year. Finally, it was said that Müller should be integrated in the club in other ways. However, he himself had the last word. Müller was seen as the face of the club, which is why a later leadership role is not excluded.
The farewell to FC Bayern should not necessarily result in the fundamental end as a professional footballer, was recently reported. A change to the Major League Soccer is mentioned as a possibility, a change within the Bundesliga or an adventure like Saudi Arabia are not options.

Müller made his debut for Munich in August 2008 and has completed 743 Bayern missions to date. No other professional comes to the native Weilheimer, who switched to youngsters as a ten-year-old. He won a total of 32 titles with the club, including twelve championships, six DFB Cup victories and two Champions League triumvings.
With Sepp Maier and Oliver Kahn, two goalkeepers follow second and three. Compared to the best -placed field player behind Müller, namesake Gerd Müller, he has 111 operations more on the account. Manuel Neuer with the second-time Bayern games among the currently still active professionals is located with 554 games in the sixth and Joshua Kimmich with 431 missions in 14th place (to the players with the most Bayern missions).
