More than half a year before the transfer window opens in summer 2026, the central defender carousel is casting its shadow. An important part of this is Ibrahima Konaté, whose contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season. The Frenchman has now commented on his future and denied an offer from the Reds.
“I’ve read a lot in the press lately, for example that Liverpool have made me a new offer. I don’t know where that comes from,” Konaté said at a press conference with the national team. The former Leipzig player is in the Premier League club as he was last year and was in the starting line-up in all competitive games apart from the EFL Cup. Nevertheless, its market value fell from 60 million to 55 million euros in October.
“My agents continue to have discussions with Liverpool. I hope to make my decision soon so that I can announce it,” Konaté explained his status. From January 1st, interested clubs can officially hold talks with him – this also applies to FC Bayern. According to reports, the Munich team has already had initial contact with the 26-year-old’s management because the future of Dayot Upamecano in the defense center is still open.

Either way, Konaté’s decision is likely to have an impact on FC Bayern’s future central defense. In the event of a departure, Liverpool FC would have to urgently look for a replacement. As was the case last summer, one candidate would be Marc Guéhi, who was also traded in Munich. Nico Schlotterbeck, whose extension at Borussia Dortmund has stalled, is also on the list at both clubs.
