Uli Hoeneß is still an influential voice for the German record champions. But a long-time companion now gives him unmistakable advice – and explains why.

Sepp Maier found clear words for his long-time companion Uli Hoeneß. At an event organized by the “Allgäuer Zeitung” in Nesselwang, the former national goalkeeper recommended that the 73-year-old retire from FC Bayern.

“Uli, if I can give you some advice, stop,” said Maier, according to a report in the paper on Friday. The 81-year-old criticized Hoeneß for not being able to let go and continuing to interfere in all issues surrounding the club. “I don’t know if he’s doing himself a favor,” explained Maier.

The two former players celebrated great successes together – including the 1974 World Cup title and several titles with FC Bayern. After retiring, Hoeneß worked as the club’s manager for decades and later as president. He has been honorary president since 2019 and sits on the record champions’ supervisory board.
