FC Bayern: Salihamidzic defends Sadio Mané – still needs time to get used to

Bayern professional among market value losers

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic from FC Bayern has strengthened the recently unsuccessful newcomer Sadio Mané. “Sadio still needs a little time, he has to get used to it, including the Bundesliga, but he will,” said the 45-year-old from “Sport Bild”. The Senegalese striker, who signed from Liverpool for €32m in the summer, had scored three times in his first three Bundesliga games for Munich, but he has been waiting for another goal in the league ever since. He scored one goal each in the DFB Cup and the DFL Supercup, but was unsuccessful in both Champions League games.

In the most recent interim update, its market value also fell. For Mané it went down from 70 million to 60 million euros. Market value admin Frederic Hillmann (“DonRoxy”) explained the devaluation: “Sadio Mané has not yet been able to put his horsepower on the road, but his previous performance played no role in the assessment. His age was also not important for the first rating as a Bundesliga professional, but the transfer modalities. The difference to the amount paid, even if he only had one year left on the contract, was too large in Mané’s case to be able to expect a reproducibility of the fee in the range of his market value.

Salihamidzic drew parallels to his active career. “I know what it’s like to arrive as a newcomer to a team, in a different country, in a different city, in a slightly different football culture.” The former midfielder switched from Bayern to Juventus Turin in 2007. “I came to Turin at the age of 30, had already won the Champions League with FC Bayern, German championships and the DFB Cup. Nevertheless, even as an experienced, successful professor, you need a while to effortlessly absorb the rhythm of your new surroundings so that you can concentrate fully on football and consistently perform.” Mané is in this process, “everything will soon be with him be more familiar, and we will soon see that on the pitch,” predicts Salihamidzic.

Not only his teammates like Captain Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich should try hard to get Mané to settle in quickly, but also the bosses. “I speak to him regularly, but I also give him space. He now has to organize himself in such a way that he feels at home in Munich, and he does that,” Salihamidzic continued, who is certain: “Sadio is one of the best players in the world. He will do very well. We will still have a lot of fun with him.” With his fee, he is the most expensive over-30 transfer in the history of Bayern.
