FC Bayern: Salihamidzic about change for Süle, Lewandowski-Poker, Sané & Gravenberch

Demands explosion from Sané

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic has demanded a clear increase in performance from Leroy Sané at Bayern Munich. “Leroy is an incredibly talented young man who has everything. He’s super fast, has dribbling and this mental strength. But now he has to come,” Salihamidzic said on the show on Sunday “Sky90 – the football debate” and also commented on other personal details.

Ex-Schalke Sané switched to Bayern in the summer of 2020 after four years at Manchester City for 60 million euros. After Sané convinced after a long start-up period in the first half of the season, his performances fell off again in the second half. A total of 24 goals and 27 assists in 87 games have been recorded after almost two seasons.

“We were all happy when he had this body tension on the field, in training,” said Salihamidzic. He talked about it with Sané, tried it with caresses and plain text. “Then there has to be a bang on the pitch.” Not only the board and coach, but also “the team expects Leroy to explode and to step on the gas in training and games,” warned Salihamidzic.

“We always talk about potential. And I want to see potential on the pitch,” said the Bayern sports director. In the first half of the season, Sané decided games and it was fun to watch him. He is now lagging behind these achievements again. Sané has a contract with Bayern until June 30, 2025. The national player is currently 30 million euros away from his highest career market value – 100 million euros at the end of 2018. “He gets the appreciation from all sides – and we want that back now,” said Salihamidzic.

Despite financial hurdles as a result of the corona pandemic, Bayern want to get the most out of next season. “We can’t have 20 top players. Nevertheless: Our goal is of course the top 4 in Europe. Of course, it is always FC Bayern’s claim that we say we want to win the Champions League. But we won’t get the club into trouble. We will turn every stone and attack properly next year,” said Salihamidzic.

FC Bayern: Salihamidzic confirms Gravenberch negotiations – no time pressure at Lewandowski

The ex-professional confirmed negotiations with Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Ryan Gravenberch (19), who is to come along with right-back Noussair Mazraoui (24). “He’s a good player. We’re in talks, I can say that much. With a transfer like this, a lot has to fit. Tendency? I can not say it. Difficult, all transfers are difficult.”

Salihamidzic blames the player for the failed contract extension with Niklas Süle (26, moves to BVB on a free transfer). “We tried everything that was in our power. We didn’t have the spare change to please him. We tried to hold him. We know how important he is, also in the dressing room. But I also have to say that the back three played superbly yesterday, which gives me hope. I’m sorry he’s leaving, but we have to look ahead.” According to “Bild”, Süle declined an annual salary of 10 million euros. With this sum he would be one of the top earners in Dortmund, on a par with Mats Hummels (33) and behind Marco Reus (32; 12 million euros a year).

Contract talks with experienced players like Robert Lewandowski are also on the agenda at FCB. The 33-year-old striker, whose contract ends in 2023, had indicated on Saturday evening that he was in a difficult situation. “I don’t see that the fronts should harden,” said Salihamidzic. “Of course” they want to keep the Poles in Munich. “We want to see how far we can reach our goals. You have to allow FC Bayern to look: How far are we going, how much money do we have? We spoke every now and then. About everything, of course, one speaks with contracts with his advisor. We will do that. We have all the time in The World. We have the best striker in the world and we’re proud of that. (…) We haven’t negotiated yet. Do we.”
