FC Bayern: Report on phone call with Barça’s Araújo – Tuchel doesn’t want to “comment” on anything

In focus for 2 years

FC Bayern has apparently contacted Ronald Araújo (24) from FC Barcelona. How “Sky“ reports, there was a phone call on Friday between coach Thomas Tuchel, sports director Christoph Freund and the central defender. The people of Munich are prepared to pay “a mega sum” for the Uruguayan international and would like to get him in the winter.

“I won’t comment on that in any way,” Tuchel said on Sky on Saturday when asked about the phone call. The 50-year-old said with a smile before the league game at Eintracht Frankfurt that he also spoke to his mother on the phone, but that wasn’t a report either. “We only talk about our players.”

Araújo moved from Boston River to the Catalans in the summer of 2018 for 4.7 million euros and has now become a leading player there. The Uruguayan, who can also play at right back, currently has 124 games, eight goals and three assists for FC Barcelona. His market value is estimated at 70 million euros, which only two players in the world can beat in his position. The 24-year-old’s contract runs until June 30, 2026, but is due to be extended. According to reports, the top Spanish club is working on it, and the Munich bosses are said to have been informed of this. Araújo’s exit clause is already at one billion euros.

Signing a defender is a priority in the German record champions’ transfer plans. In the current season, Tuchel had to overcome bottlenecks in defense, for example midfielder Leon Goretzka repeatedly helped out in the center of defense. Araújo has been on Munich’s list for two years, it was recently said. There is also speculation in the TM rumor mill about Clément Lenglet (Aston Villa, on loan from Barcelona), Giorgio Scalvini (Atalanta) or “sixer” João Palhinha (Fulham), whose planned move to Säbener Straße fell through on summer deadline day.

The signing of Spanish offensive player Bryan Zaragoza from FC Granada is fixed for the new season. “We have signed a very young and very hungry player. He’s a bit of a late starter and is very confident. “He’s a good dribbler, strong one-on-one and very fast,” Tuchel said on Friday. “He has a lot of confidence and a lot of hunger. We are very happy that he chose us.” The 22-year-old has a contract until June 30, 2029. The information on the transfer fee to be paid by Bayern varies between 12 million and 14 million euros plus performance-related bonuses between a further 2 million to 4 million euros.
