FC Bayern: President Hainer on Süle’s move to BVB – “No promotion”

“No sportive advancement”

Bayern Munich President Herbert Hainer reacted with astonishment to Niklas Süle’s farewell to Borussia Dortmund of all places. “I don’t know what salary Niklas Süle gets at Dortmund,” said Hainer on Tuesday in Munich at a meeting of the club’s basketball players.

“I don’t think it’s a sporting climb. But Niklas is a very good player who has become a regular in the national team over the past five years. I’m assuming that he’s going to put his foot down over the last three months so that he can clinch the titles we all have in front of us,” the 67-year-old continued.

Süle is leaving the record champions on a free transfer in the summer, and the 26-year-old defender has signed a four-year contract with Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund. “I didn’t think it would be his first choice,” admitted Hainer and continued: “I think Dortmund is always looking to compete with us, which is good for the Bundesliga. But as you have seen over the last nine years at least, we know how to defend ourselves and we will continue to do so in the future.”

Bayern boss Hainer: It will be “exciting” to see Süle at BVB

Before his announced move, Süle had complained about allegedly too little appreciation by Munich. “I can only speak of myself and the people at FC Bayern that I deal with every day: we all valued him and know what we have in him. You have to ask him yourself what he means by that. “It will be “exciting to see him on the other side.”
