FC Bayern: Pavard extension within reach again – praise from Salhamidzic

Praise from Salihamidzic

Thanks to remarkable goalscoring qualities, Benjamin Pavard celebrated a special premiere. In the 5: 3 of his FC Bayern Munich against FC Augsburg, his 150th appearance with the record champions, the 26-year-old scored twice for the first time in his career. Now the subject of the future is back in focus. The Frenchman is tied for just one more year after the season. Statements from sports director Hasan Salihamidzic and trainer Julian Nagelsmann make it clear that there is currently little reason for an early separation.

“I am very, very happy. That was a top game for the team and also a nice game for me with two goals,” said the 2018 world champion. “After the Paris game, it was important to do more and win. Now we are concentrating on the tasks ahead.”

Pavard trumped after good performances in recent weeks against FCA. “I’m really happy that Benji is doing so well. In the last four to six weeks he’s been one of the outstanding players here with us,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. “He comes to training every day with a smile. He is happy, working, in a good mood and in good shape.”

Contract extension with Pavard? Bayern coach Nagelsmann also praises

After Pavard had repeatedly flirted with a change, it seems that the collaboration, which was dated until June 30, 2024, will be extended. “We will see everything else,” said Salihamidzic. Pavard tapped the club crest on his jersey as he celebrated the goal. “Two goals are great for me,” said Pavard.

The 26-year-old seems to have put difficult months behind him. At the World Cup he was only used in the opening match of the French, after that he had to watch. Before the tournament in Qatar, he also had to digest a penalty from FC Bayern. The club had fined the defender after a “mistake” off the pitch. That’s what coach Nagelsmann said when he was asked about reports of Pavard driving under the influence of alcohol. The professional himself initially did not comment on this.

For this, Pavard earned the coach’s praise after his gala against Augsburg. “I know that he feels extremely comfortable in the coaching team,” Nagelsmann said after the game on “Sky”. “He feels in good hands and can develop well. Of course, he now also plays more centrally in his much-loved position. He is doing very well.”
