Negotiations between FC Barcelona and Bayern over Robert Lewandowski are picking up speed. Barcelona’s president has spoken out.

FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta is optimistic about signing Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski. “We made an offer for the player, Bayern are checking it and we’re waiting for their answer, which will hopefully be positive,” Laporta told journalists on Thursday at the presentation of Danish defender Andreas Christensen as the club’s new professional. In any case, he is confident. Laporta thanked the Polish professional “for everything he does” to make the move possible. He did not name the amount of the offer.

The 1.35 billion euro club from Catalonia in northeastern Spain had recently opened up several sources of income. With the money one hopes to be able to get more stars besides Lewandowski. According to media reports, the talks include Brazilian striker Raphinha from Leeds United, Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva from Manchester City and French defender Jules Koundé from FC Sevilla.

Laporta expects high revenues

However, Laporta emphasized on Thursday that no further offers would be made for expensive professionals until, as recently announced, another 15 percent of the television rights had been sold. This deal is expected to bring in around €400m in revenue for the club. Previously, Barça had already assigned a ten percent stake in its TV rights and received 207.5 million euros.

Lewandowski still has a contract with Bayern until June 30, 2023. The German record champions do not want to let the world footballer go prematurely.
