FC Bayern missed a surprise against Piraeus

Basketball Bundesliga club Bayern Munich just missed a big point in the EuroLeague in the race for a playoff spot.

After only one defeat in the last five premier class games, Munich were heading for a surprise against the Greek co-favourites Olympiakos Piraeus before the hosts collapsed after the break and left the hall as 88:98 (53:50) losers. With twelve successes from the previous 25 games, Munich still has a good chance of making it into the final round of the top eight.

48 hours after the emotional Bundesliga victory against the Hamburg Towers (86:75) with Nick Weiler-Babb’s serious fall and national player Paul Zipser’s 15-second comeback, Bayern coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team acted with extreme self-confidence and proved themselves themselves for the strongly estimated Hellenes as equals. In the second half, however, Bayern dropped significantly, while Piraeus showed its class.

Munich’s best pitchers were Vladimir Lucic with 15 points and Othello Hunter and Darrun Hilliard with twelve points each. Munich’s next game in the continental elite class is scheduled for March 15 (Tuesday) at Turkey’s Fenerbahce Istanbul.
