After the last home game of the year, a Bayern star unequivocally declared himself to be the record champions. Eberl reacts and announces talks.

It was a symbolic scene: When Leroy Sané scored to make it 4-1 in FC Bayern’s 5-1 win against Leipzig on Friday evening, all of his teammates ran to him. The substitutes also gathered in a circle around him and celebrated the goalscorer.

A strong gesture from the team that was clearly good for Sané. Not only because he had ended many of his previous actions rather unhappily until his redeeming goal in the 75th minute. Also because his future at FC Bayern and a possible farewell in the summer are currently being discussed more openly than with hardly any other Munich professional. His contract only runs until the end of the season. There has recently been a noticeable lack of commitment from the club bosses to him and a possible contract extension.

Sané himself became even more clear after the last home game of the year against Leipzig when he was asked about his uncertain future. When asked specifically whether he wanted to stay at Bayern, the 28-year-old answered with a clear “yes” and grinned.

Sané had previously been asked whether he had already spoken to head coach Vincent Kompany about his future? “Not directly, we haven’t talked about it yet. So far everything is going well. I think Max (sports director Max Eberl; editor’s note) has already said a lot about it,” he said. “I’ve already given my answer to that. I want to use my performance to help us win the games.”

He did quite well against Leipzig with his goal and t-online grade 3. But he will undoubtedly have to collect further arguments for a contract extension. After his groin operation last summer, Sané has not yet returned to his top form and has often only been used as a substitute.

When sports director Max Eberl was asked about Sané’s yes to Bayern shortly after Sané, he simply said: “Then we’ll talk in January.” Before the Leipzig game, Eberl said when asked by t-online about the squad plans in the winter: “The priority is on internal transfers, i.e. contract extensions.” He has now made it once again unmistakably clear that Sané also wants one at FC Bayern.
