FC Bayern | Leroy Sané admits mistakes: “Offered too easy a target”

Leroy Sané has without a doubt had the best half-year at FC Bayern so far. However, the German international is far from satisfied.

“The pressure at a club like FC Bayern is far too high to be able to rest on your achievements,” the 27-year-old made clear in an interview with the Munich club magazine “51”.

Sané added: “The season is still long – so far it’s looking pretty good, but I also want to be there when the decisive phase in the Champions League and the championship begins in the spring at the latest.”

In 24 competitive games, the winger has already collected 18 scorer points (nine goals, nine assists). He has never been more consistent since his €49 million move from Manchester City to FC Bayern three and a half years ago.

FC Bayern: Sané “offered targets too easily”

Sané blames several factors for his explosion in performance. “I had a very good preparation under Thomas Tuchel. Everything felt very good. And then one thing led to another,” revealed the former Schalke player.

His self-confidence grew “bigger and bigger” over time – also because he drew the right conclusions from setbacks: “The disappointing 2022 World Cup and the elimination in the Champions League quarter-finals also gave me extra motivation to be more successful this season because the bottom line is that things simply didn’t go very satisfactorily in 2022/23.”

Sané also admitted his own mistakes: “In hindsight, I admit that in the past I sometimes offered targets too easily, into which dozens of things were then interpreted. But you also learn from that.”

In general, he has “grown up in all areas,” emphasized the nimble right winger: “I had ups and downs in my career, but I was also able to learn a lot from the downs.”
