Almost a week ago, Lennart Karl’s World Cup dream was shattered when he tore his muscle bundle. Now the Bayern star surprisingly appeared again in Munich.
Lennart Karl made a surprise appearance at the FC Bayern basketball team’s first final game for the German championship on Friday evening. The young star footballer for FC Bayern and the German national team watched the FCBB’s first playoff duel with arch-rival Alba Berlin together with his girlfriend Zoe Käppele. The couple watched Bayern’s 102:94 victory – just like Bayern President Herbert Hainer, club patron Uli Hoeneß and former sports director Matthias Sammer – right on the sidelines in the VIP block.

Almost a week ago, Karl’s big World Cup dream was shattered in a very bitter way. After he suffered a torn muscle during the final training session before the final friendly against the USA (2-1), he had to travel back to Munich early from the German national team’s camp in Chicago. There he was looking for some distraction in the SAP Garden.
Karl gives an update on his injury
During the first quarter break, the 18-year-old also briefly commented on his injury. “I’m still in pain, but I have to get through it now. I’ll come back even stronger,” said Karl. As a small consolation, the hall announcer gave him a jersey from the Bayern basketball players with his name on it.
Karl revealed that he came back to Munich for initial treatment and then got a vacation. After all, there wasn’t much he could do in rehab in these first few days anyway, apart from giving the injury time to heal. Only then does the construction phase begin again at some point.
So Karl will only be a spectator at the German national team’s opening game on Sunday (7 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). The fact that he can still laugh again and is confident about the future was something he showed on Friday evening during his visit to the Bayern basketball team, which the outstanding Andi Obst led to victory with 33 points. The FCBB are now missing two more in the best-of-five series in order to end the season with the championship title. Game two will take place again on Sunday (3:30 p.m.) in Munich.
