Backup wanted for Diaz

Anthony Gordon could be too expensive for FC Bayern, which is why alternatives are apparently being examined. According to information from “Bild”, the German record champion is watching Mika Godts from Ajax Amsterdam. The 20-year-old Belgian, like Gordon, is a left winger and, given his market value of 25 million euros, should be more affordable than the Newcastle United professional, who is valued at 60 million euros. Charles De Ketelaere from Atalanta is also apparently coming into focus.
According to reports, Godts is only a “good option” for the Munich team; coach Vincent Kompany’s compatriot is not the desired target for the position. The two-time Belgian international has been active for the Dutch since the beginning of 2023 and made his breakthrough last season. This season he is the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 17 goals and twelve assists in 30 games, which has caused his market value to skyrocket. His contract runs until 2029.
Before Bayern, Godts was also linked to numerous other top clubs. These included FC Barcelona, Liverpool and RB Leipzig. Newcastle from the Premier League was also considered interested, where Godts could possibly follow Gordon. The latter remains the Munich team’s desired transfer. However, the Magpies are currently demanding around 90 million euros for the 25-year-old, as “Bild” and “Sky” report. The reason for this large sum is that Newcastle needs income this summer in order to comply with the Financial Fair Play regulations. What is certain, however, is that Bayern do not want to pay this amount – for a backup for Luis Díaz.

Another name on the Munich list is still Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, but he would also be expensive. The winger is expected to bring in at least 100 million euros in the future, but the Red Bulls want to keep the Ivorian this summer anyway. Anything over 95 million euros would be a transfer record in the Bundesliga for additions.

Update 1:00 p.m.: Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri also brings De Ketelaere into play as another option, who is a similar type of player to Gordon. Accordingly, Bayern have concrete interest in the 25-year-old, who is tied to the Bergamo club until 2028. With a market value of €35 million, he is likely to be available at a lower price than Gordon, similar to Godts. The 28-time Belgian international is also said to have already given the green light for a move. However, there have been no talks between the clubs yet; these could take place next week.
