The goalkeeper situation at FC Bayern has been subject to a lot of change for years due to the fact that Manuel Neuer’s future cannot be planned in the long term. The 40-year-old wants to announce his decision as soon as possible as to whether he will stay behind for another year. If he ends his career in the summer, the record champions will apparently focus on Daniel Heuer Fernandes.
According to “Sport Bild”, the Munich team is looking for an experienced number two to sit on the bench behind Jonas Urbig. The 33-year-old German-Portuguese would be one of the candidates, it is said. As of today, his contract in Hamburg ends in the summer, but would automatically be extended by one year if he were to stay in the league. Discussions are also underway about an early extension.
FC Bayern has had good experiences in the past with the transfer of an experienced keeper from Hamburg. In 2021, Sven Ulreich followed the same path and played an important role in the squad despite his limited playing time. There have been 34 games since the move, including seven games in the Champions League. These numbers could also attract Fernandes this year, who has never played in a European competition.
In addition to Urbig, Alexander Nübel (contract until 2030) and Daniel Peretz (2028) are also under contract in Munich for the coming season. However, it is clear for both Nübel, who is on loan to Stuttgart, and Peretz, who is on loan from Southampton, that the role as number three will not be an option.
