Will FC Bayern add more personnel in January? According to a rumor, the German record champions are dealing with a ten-time England international.
As the portal “teamtalk.com” reports with reference to unnamed sources, FC Bayern has had “direct discussions” with representatives of Kobbie Mainoo.
The 20-year-old midfielder is currently only second choice at Manchester United. Because of this, there have been farewell rumors surrounding him for a long time.
According to “teamtalk.com”, FC Bayern are said to be “confident” that Mainoo would be “open to” a move to Munich. The British portal cites England’s national team captain Harry Kane and coach Vincent Kompany’s system as arguments.
SSC Napoli is also listed as an alleged interested party. The Serie A leader is said to be exploring a loan deal with an option to buy. Mainoo is “open” to a possible move to Italy. However, the right-footed player is said to prefer staying in the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Manchester City are listed as potential options by teamtalk.com.
FC Bayern sees itself “well positioned”
It remains to be seen whether FC Bayern will present to Manchester United in January.
Munich’s sports director Christoph Freund currently sees no need for action in the upcoming transfer period.
“We are very, very happy with our squad and are really looking forward to three new winter signings. From that point of view, we are well positioned,” said the Austrian last Friday, alluding to the long-term injured Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito.
Speculation about Bayern’s interest is not new
FC Bayern has already been linked to Mainoo in the past. The central midfielder had a steep development at Manchester United in the 2023/24 season. At the subsequent European Championships in Germany, Mainoo was a regular member of the Three Lions team.
The Englishman was then slowed down by injuries, among other things. This season, Mainoo is only second choice at Manchester United under head coach Rúben Amorim. His contract is dated until 2027.
