FC Bayern: Insider unpacks Nagelsmann’s future

Since his departure from FC Bayern, there has been speculation as to which club Julian Nagelsmann will join next. His player advisor Volker Struth has now given interesting insights.

Chelsea? Tottenham? Or is it a Bundesliga club? There has been speculation about Julian Nagelsmann’s next coaching position for weeks. One thing is clear: Premier League club Chelsea FC was the first club to contact Julian Nagelsmann after his release from FC Bayern Munich. And thus the first that the 35-year-old has canceled.

“It also went through the media, you can also confirm that there was contact with Chelsea very quickly,” revealed Nagelsmann insider Volker Struth in the “Bild” podcast.

The fact that the blues bosses picked up the phone so quickly was due to the “close relationship” with Struth’s co-managing director Sascha Breese, who accompanied Timo Werner’s transfer from London to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022.

From Struth’s point of view, the decision to cancel was ultimately the right one: “This is a club that is swimming in turbulent waters and has had transfer periods, with a lot of money and high expectations. You have to live up to them.”

Based on the current situation, Chelsea would not have been “the right place”, the player’s agent continued: “But it was not the case that the two gentlemen sat at Julian’s door with a contract ready to be signed. Julian was the one, that is the information we had. If Julian had wanted it, I think it would have happened.”

Struth can imagine a longer break at Nagelsmann

Basically, Julian Nagelsmann has the “attraction” to work abroad in the future, “but it also has to fit. In my opinion, only big international clubs are currently possible for Julian. He has to determine and decide on his own afterwards”.

A commitment to Tottenham Hotspur was hotly traded recently. However, the track should not be as hot as last thought: “They have to hire a sports director first, or they are finding and looking for and having talks.”

In Germany, according to Volker Struth, “the market isn’t there. A coach works at Borussia Dortmund who might become German champion. And the second club would be Leipzig and they also have a great coach working there. The question doesn’t arise there.”

Struth thus hinted that Nagelsmann could initially look to the coming season without a new task: “There’s nothing wrong with looking at what happens in autumn or winter. Everything is possible there. Incidentally, Julian Nagelsmann is still an employee from Bayern Munich.”
