The DFB Cup final between FC Bayern and VfB Stuttgart was decided by a hat trick from super striker Harry Kane. But it wasn’t just the Englishman who set off fireworks, the fans also lit up diligently – to the displeasure of Uli Hoeneß.
Shortly after the break, the fan camps of both teams simultaneously ignited several Bengalos and other pyrotechnics. Shortly afterwards the stadium was enveloped in thick smoke. Referee Sven Jablonski was forced to interrupt the game for a few minutes.
An action that caused Uli Hoeneß great displeasure. “The game was of course great, but what the spectators on both sides did today is an outrage. They completely destroyed the game. My wife told me: ‘You haven’t seen anything on TV for a long time,'” said the Bayern patron on “Sky”.
Hoeneß said that he, too, “didn’t see anything in places in the second half” on his seat in the Berlin Olympic Stadium: “If the spectators think that this is their form of celebration, I’m really not going to be there anymore,” was the 74-year-old’s clear opinion.
Official emergency announcement
However, the pyro show of the two fan camps didn’t have much to do with “celebrations”. Rather, the massive amount of pyrotechnics was to be understood as a renewed protest against the DFB.
TV images from the air showed the Olympic Stadium in a long shot. It became clear how the smoke was trapped inside. As a result, there was even an official emergency announcement in the stadium: people with respiratory or eye problems – especially asthmatics – should contact the nearest medical station.
Meanwhile, Hoeneß demanded consequences: “The clubs, the DFB and politicians must take tough action so that such outrageous acts no longer happen.”
