Bayern bosses see a duty to the team
Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic from FC Bayern Munich does not expect any major changes after the World Cup in Qatar. “I’m not the biggest fan of January transfers because I usually complete the planning for a season in the summer. But of course we will follow the World Cup very closely,” said the 45-year-old in the members’ magazine “51”. “I don’t believe in big transfers – I hope above all that our many players get through the tournament healthy and injury-free.”

In the summer, Bayern upgraded their team for 137.5 million euros, making Bayern one of the ten most expensive clubs in the world. As a stage, world championships often bring with them larger movements on the transfer market. This year, the World Cup is taking place at an unusual time, from November 20th to December 18th. Bayern Munich continue on January 20 with an away game against RB Leipzig.
Summer 2022: Clubs with the highest transfer spends
The German record champions are currently focusing on the Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday. The Munich ensemble coached by Julian Nagelsmann, fifth in the table and five points behind leaders Union Berlin, needs a threesome after four games without a win. “The most important thing is to have a good foundation on which everything is stable and nothing wobbles when there is a headwind. You have to be able to withstand headwinds at Bayern,” said Salihamidzic about the basic requirements of a squad.
He pointed out the important role of the coach. “Each of these top professionals always wants to play. Balancing all of this in such a way that everyone is happy but there is still healthy competition is a major challenge. We want to excite the fans with attractive football – and at the end of the day we still have to win,” he said. “And it’s completely normal for 20 ambitious players to have three or four who don’t get a chance and who could therefore be dissatisfied. It is very important, especially for the coach, to moderate this properly, because everyone has to be in top form in the spring.”
President Hainer: FC Bayern team “will have to step on the gas”
President Herbert Hainer also expects a different performance against Bayer Leverkusen. “I’m firmly convinced that the team will give their all on Friday and that they want to reverse the defeat against Augsburg,” said the 68-year-old on Wednesday in Munich. “I also think everyone knows that we really have to step on the gas now. We will see a whole different team on Friday – and a winning team too.”
FC Bayern salaries: 18.5 million between 20th place and the top
The season got off to a great start, but lately things have been a little sluggish, said Hainer. Trainer Nagelsmann was strengthened by CEO Oliver Kahn, sports director Salihamidzic and his back. “Internally there is no additional pressure at all.” Nagelsmann has to turn the trend around without much preparation with the whole team. The Frenchman Mathys Tel (17) was there again. The day before, captain Manuel Neuer (26) and Leon Goretzka (27) were on the training ground after their corona infections.
