Paul Wanner is having a strong season for Heidenheim. Today he meets his parent club from Munich. He wants him back soon.
Paul Wanner is one of the most promising talents in German football. The attacking midfielder, who is currently on loan at Bundesliga club 1. FC Heidenheim, will return to the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon (from 3:30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online) – as an opponent of his training club FC Bayern.
The 18-year-old is under contract with the record champions until 2027 and is being closely monitored in Munich. National coach Julian Nagelsmann, who made Wanner’s debut with the Bayern professionals at the age of 16, is also keeping an eye on him, as are numerous Bundesliga clubs, including Eintracht Frankfurt. Because: In Heidenheim, Wanner shows again and again why he is currently so popular.
The U21 international started the season strongly with two Bundesliga goals and an assist. He also drew attention to himself in the European Cup games for Heidenheim, contributed a goal and an assist in qualifying for the Conference League and was also successful once in the group stage of the competition.
That’s probably why Bayern’s sports director Christoph Freund emphasized before the duel in Munich: “Let’s see what happens in the future. But as FC Bayern Munich we are certainly planning with Paul Wanner.” He considers his stopover in Heidenheim a success: “We are happy with this loan.” Wanner is continuing to develop there under coach Frank Schmidt in a “healthy, good environment,” said Freund, who also emphasized that exchanges with the young player take place regularly from Bayern.
Wanner and 1. FC Heidenheim are currently in crisis. The club is only in 16th place in the table. In this context, Freund spoke of a “somewhat difficult phase” for the young star in Heidenheim. But that is also valuable, explained the Bayern sports director: For Wanner’s development, the “experience that he is now gaining is very important.”
Will the actual Bayern professional succeed in breaking free with his loan club in Munich of all places? Freund explained seriously, but also with a wink: “Paul should make really good plays and goals again, but it doesn’t have to be in this game. He can save that for later.”
