While the FC Bayern professionals have to worry about reaching the Champions League quarter-finals after a 0-1 defeat in the first leg, the U19s have achieved this in the UEFA Youth League. The Munich youngsters beat Feyenoord Rotterdam 3-2 (3-0) in the round of 16 on Wednesday. Olympiacos Piraeus, who had previously eliminated RC Lens’ offspring in a penalty shootout, now awaits in the next round.

Coach René Maric’s team made things seemingly clear in the first half. After goals from Benedikt Wimmer (20th minute), Javier Fernández (28th) and Emirhan Demircan (45th), the Munich team already had a clear lead at half-time, which was extended in the second half with goals from Fabiano Rust (52nd) and Djomar Giersthove (55th) quickly melted. In the end, the Munich team got the result over time.

On Tuesday, Mainz 05 became the first of three Bundesliga youth teams remaining in the competition to make it into the quarter-finals (March 12/13), where they will face FC Porto. On Wednesday evening it will be the turn of RB Leipzig, who will play against Real Madrid. Last year, only one German representative, Borussia Dortmund, made it to the last eight, but failed there against Hajduk Split (for an overview of 2022/23).
