Goalkeeper Sven Ulreich stays with FC Bayern for another year. As the German champions announced on Saturday, the 33-year-old extended his contract, which originally expired at the end of the season, until 2023. The goalkeeper, number two behind Manuel Neuer, is entering his seventh season with Munich – but not in one go. Ulreich was under contract with Bayern from 2015 to 2020 before deciding to move to Hamburger SV. After a year with the “Red Pants” and a missed promotion, he returned.
“We’re delighted that Sven will stay at Bayern Munich for another year. With his character and his mentality, he fits perfectly into our group. Sven has an excellent understanding of his role and is always there when you need him,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. Ulreich, who has played 78 games for FCB so far, added: “FC Bayern has become like a family over the years. I look forward to another year here. I enjoy the task behind a world goalkeeper like Manuel Neuer, we have a friendly, collegial relationship with each other.
Ulreich’s extension is the second in Munich this week. Thomas Müller had previously committed to the club until 2024. FC Bayern is also trying to continue working with Neuer, Serge Gnabry and top scorer Robert Lewandowski, whose working papers all end in 2023.
