At the age of 36, right -back Björn Kopplin gave up his soccer shoes at the end of the season. The German U19 European champion from 2008 was trained at Bayern and subsequently played for VfL Bochum, Union Berlin and Prussia Münster before moving to Denmark in February 2017. There he has been active for Randers FC since the beginning of 2019, for which he completed the most missions with 201 (nine goals). In 2021 he was cup winner with the club.
“We have reached a fantastic position in the Superliga and now I can pass on the baton to the young players. We have a fantastic team of coaches and talented players in the team. I think it’s time now,” said Kopplin, who was on the pitch 22 times in the current season and is preserved as an assistant coach of the U19 juniors.
“Björn was an incredibly important part of the Randers FC for many years – both as a player and as a person. He was a cultural bearer, a role model and a real club person who lived our values every day. We now say goodbye to him as an active player with great respect and gratitude. He has left clear traces in the club and among the young players around him,” said sports director Søren Pedersen. “He was always the first on the training ground, ready to fight and be ready to take responsibility – in good and bad.”
