After an outstanding season at FC Bayern, Harry Kane also scored at will in the English national team’s opening game and led his team to a successful start to the World Cup. An England icon then received a knighthood.

“He’s the greatest striker we’ve ever had,” enthused Gary Lineker about the captain of the “Three Lions” in his podcast “The Rest is Football”. Kane was able to catch up with Gary Lineker with his brace against Croatia. They were goals nine and ten for Kane in a World Cup. Only Lineker had achieved this before him.

“I’m really happy that Kane has equaled my record. But in alphabetical order I’m still ahead of him and that’s all that matters,” the England icon said, showing that the record isn’t that important to him.

“In all seriousness: In my opinion, Harry Kane is the best English striker we’ve ever had. I really believe that now. His versatile game – that’s what sets him apart from everyone else for me,” he said, hardly stopping from raving about it.

Hamann peak against Kane record

Thanks to England’s victory, the team already has more than one foot in the knockout phase. So Kane has at least three more games to secure the sole record.

“It’s only a matter of time before he breaks your record,” said co-host and former professional Alan Shearer, unsurprisingly, to Lineker. “Harry Kane saw Messi, Mbappe and Haaland come onto the pitch straight away and score. He had to step up,” said the former top striker.

But there is not only praise for Kane. So the possible record for the German TV expert Didi Hamann is just a pattern with little value. He suggested that Kane’s record was not that impressive, with seven of those goals coming in group games against weaker opponents and only one goal coming from play in five knockout games.

In the end, however, there were ten goals scored, and no one can take that away from Harry Kane.
