“I’m 1.92 meters tall”
Suspended Kompany forgoes Mourinho trick

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany missed the first leg at PSG due to a yellow card suspension. The Belgian doesn’t use a trick to get around the ban.
A trick like José Mourinho’s is out of the question for him. The former Chelsea coach hid in the laundry basket in the dressing room in 2005 despite being banned. Kompany said at the press conference before the game: “I’m 1.92 meters tall, I don’t fit in this laundry box. Unfortunately.”
When asked about his place in the stadium, he replied: “Where am I sitting? Somewhere in the stadium, maybe not that far away from you. But I don’t know my way around the stadium very well yet. The procedures are clear. I know until when I can and am allowed to do something – and how I can support the team.”
Assistant Aaron Danks takes over on the sidelines. Kompany explained: “Danksi (the nickname of the assistant coach, editor) also has experience. He was on the sidelines in England in the Premier League for a while. He also has a normal and loud role in training. I have 100 percent trust in our staff and everyone else too.” Ultimately, it’s about “solving it as a team.”
The situation is not new for Kompany. As player-coach at RSC Anderlecht in the 2019/2020 season, he was often not allowed to sit on the bench due to injuries. He said: “I was player-coach in my first year. The rule is that you are on the pitch. But if you are injured, you are not allowed to sit on the sidelines. I was often injured and played a lot of games in the wings. Unfortunately, I have a lot of experience in this area.”
