Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann justified the substitution of Tanguy Nianzou, who was warned after a hard foul, in the 3-0 win in Bielefeld as an “educational measure”. The 19-year-old went into a header duel with Fabian Kunze with his elbow raised and hit him in the head (45′). Kunze was treated for minutes, carried off the pitch on a stretcher and was unable to continue playing. As Arminia announced, the 23-year-old is doing better again, he is stable, but was taken to the hospital to be on the safe side.
“Get well soon to the player,” said Nagelsmann at “DAZN”, who had taken Nianzou out in the second half. “On the one hand, it’s an educational measure, that’s a red card.” Referee Matthias Jöllenbeck had left it yellow. “He has to learn to go in there a little more carefully,” Nagelsmann continued, who added at the subsequent press conference (quoted via “Bild”): “He’s a really nice guy, didn’t do it on purpose. But he has to learn that, he also has this urge in training to sometimes be a tad too aggressive.”
Another reason for the substitution was that the central defender would have been sent off if there was another foul. “I’m already a coach who would like to take a small educational measure with a young player every now and then,” explained Nagelsmann. Josip Stanisic came on for Nianzou, who was only in the starting XI for the fifth time this Bundesliga season.
