FC Bayern: Choupo-Moting’s adviser does not rule out departure

Despite promising negotiations to extend his expiring contract, Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting’s whereabouts at FC Bayern are not certain.

“We have worked out a decent position in the talks. Hasan Salihamidzic (FC Bayern director of sport, editor’s note) can confirm that. We are on our last legs. However, I cannot say how it will end. It can also fail in the final stages. In the end, it’s also about the money, it’s always about the money,” said Choupo-Moting’s advisor Roger Wittmann in an interview with the TV channel “Sky”.

But he hopes that his client will have a future with the German record champions, according to the prominent player’s agent.

Choupo-Moting is an “impressive footballer and a great person, very clear-headed,” enthused Wittmann. “He’s experienced and knows how to assess things.”

The 62-year-old added: “If it doesn’t work out, the world of FC Bayern won’t end and neither will Choupo’s world. But we’ll try everything to reach an agreement.”

Choupo-Moting switched from Paris Saint-Germain to FC Bayern in 2020 as a backup for Robert Lewandowski. After Poland’s departure to FC Barcelona last summer, the 33-year-old was the focus of attention as the new goalscorer.

Will FC Bayern get another top striker?

However, there are persistent rumors that FC Bayern want to sign a prominent top striker like Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur next summer.

“It doesn’t matter who gets signed,” said Wittmann. “Choupo-Moting’s decision does not depend on that.”

If it is “not political”, i.e. a player is set because of his transfer, and “the performance is the only thing that decides who plays and who doesn’t”, his protégé “does not have to hide from anyone”, explained the consultant. “Then I’m not worried about him. He’s an exceptional player, he has class.”
