Despite a two-goal deficit, FC Bayern still wins in Freiburg. The people of Munich are reaching a historic milestone.
With a show of will, FC Bayern not only avoided a defeat against SC Freiburg on Easter Saturday, but also significantly increased their own goal tally. The Munich team were already 2-0 down against Breisgau, but scored three more times in the final minutes and ultimately left the field as winners 3-2.
Tom Bischof’s brace and Lennart Karl’s goal increased the number of goals scored to 100. The German record champions have thus broken a historic mark. Never before had a team in the Bundesliga scored so many goals so quickly. Coach Vincent Kompany’s team only needed 28 match days to achieve this. The last time Bayern scored 100 goals in a season was in 2019/2020.
The record for most goals in a season is now only one goal away thanks to the three successes in Freiburg. In the 1971/1972 season, Bayern were able to put the ball in the opponent’s goal 101 times. A team has never scored more goals in a Bundesliga season. It is possible that the record will be set or beaten as early as next week.
The league leaders still have six games left to break the current record. The remaining opponents in the league are St. Pauli, Stuttgart, Mainz, Heidenheim, Wolfsburg and Cologne. In the first half of the season, Bayern scored a total of 25 goals against these opponents.
Harry Kane contributed most of the 100 goals this season. The Englishman was successful 31 times for his team. He was missing against Freiburg due to injury. Kane could still claim the goal record for most goals by a single player. He is missing at least ten goals. In 2021, Robert Lewandowski scored 41 goals for Bayern to win the title, surpassing Gerd Müller’s 49-year-old mark (40 goals).
