In his four years at FC Bayern, Bouna Sarr hardly left a lasting impression from a sporting perspective, at least not in public. But behind the scenes, Sarr said he was the best in at least one category for the Munich team.
In mid-2020, FC Bayern surprised the competition by signing Bouna Sarr. The right-back moved to the Isar with the impressive sum of over 200 professional games in France, but Sarr rarely made a special appearance. The Frenchman only played 1,293 minutes during this time, divided into 33 appearances across all competitions.
Although Sarr left FCB last summer with three German championships, a Super Cup victory and the Club World Cup title under his belt, the defender did not play a major role in that. And that despite the fact that, according to his own statement, he was as good as anyone else in the fitness area.
“I was always number one in all physical tests. Even at FC Bayern Munich,” he told footmercato.net.
“I don’t think I’ve lost all of these qualities because of the injuries,” continued Sarr, who was set back last season by a torn cruciate ligament and had previously been out again and again with minor and major injuries.
After leaving FC Bayern: This is what Bouna Sarr is planning
The right-back, who is out of contract, is currently traveling back and forth between Dubai and Senegal and is keeping fit privately with his fitness trainers.
He had worked hard in the last few months and prepared for a new task, but the right club wasn’t there.
“I just hope things get better in the winter transfer window. I keep faith that everything will be fine,” he said.
According to Sarr, the fact that no club took action last summer was also due to the fact that some interested parties were hesitant due to his previous cruciate ligament tear, the former Bayern professional continued.
“That played a big role in the discussions with higher-class clubs. But today I don’t think there are any excuses anymore. Since this summer I’ve kept up as best I could, even if I didn’t play in games,” he explained. He is “at 100 percent”, even without match practice.
Sarr wants to listen to all the offers that come in. But he said he believes he has what it takes to play at top clubs. At the same time, however, he didn’t rule anything out. “I won’t be greedy when it comes to financial aspects. I finally want to play football again. I can offer every team added value,” concluded Sarr.
