Bayern Munich remains extremely strong at home in the Basketball EuroLeague. The South Germans won confidently against Vitoria-Gasteiz.
FC Bayern remains a power in the SAP Garden. When he reunited with his former coach Pablo Laso, the German basketball champions beat Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz from Spain 94:80 (44:44) in the EuroLeague and celebrated their seventh win in their seventh home game in the competition. Laso led Munich to a double last season, but then returned to his Basque hometown at his own request.
Bayern returned to the European premier class after two defeats; most recently, coach Gordon Herbert’s team came away empty-handed in Serbia against Red Star Belgrade and in Turkey against Anadolu Istanbul. In between there was a home defeat against Rasta Vechta in the Bundesliga at BMW Park. With the ninth success in the 14th game, Munich consolidated their play-off place, Baskonia (6:8) missed the chance to make up ground.
The man of the evening was once again Carsen Edwards. The EuroLeague’s top scorer didn’t score a point in the first half, but scored 15 points in the third quarter alone. A 16-0 run to 72:61 (31st minute) put Bayern on course for victory, and in the end Edwards scored 27 points.
On Wednesday, Alba Berlin won the basement duel at Virtus Bologna (90:88 nV), and on Thursday head coach Luca Banchi – also a former Bayern coach – resigned from the Italians. The experienced and extremely successful Montenegrin Duško Ivanović takes over.
