The champions of FC Bayern Munich barely avoided their first defeat in the Bundesliga after being eliminated from the Champions League.
Three days after the defeat in the semi-final second leg at FC Barcelona (2:4), coach José Barcala’s revamped team drew 1:1 (0:1) against TSG Hoffenheim. After 20 league games, FCB’s winning streak ended.
Bayern, who had changed seven positions compared to their appearance at Camp Nou, were behind for a long time. Defender Magdalena Eriksson (89th) saved at least a point with a header after a cross from Klara Bühl. Goal scorer Selina Cerci (41st) put TSG in the lead.
The championship title can no longer be taken away from Munich, and in the DFB Cup final on May 14th against VfL Wolfsburg, the Bayern women could repeat their double win from last year.
Hoffenheim suffered perhaps the decisive setback in the race for third place, which entitles them to take part in the Champions League qualification. The gap to Eintracht Frankfurt is six points two game days before the end of the season.
