FC Bayern and SpVgg Unterhaching want to work together long-term in the youth sector. According to the announcement, the German record champions and the third division team concluded a strategic partnership. In addition to screening, exchanging and promoting talent, the cooperation includes regular internships by Haching trainers with Bayern’s young talent as well as workshops on the FC Bayern campus.

“SpVgg Unterhaching has been known for many years for its excellent regional youth work. We expect this long-term partnership with a club right on our doorstep to ensure smooth, uncomplicated integration in the development of our shared talents,” said Bayern sports director Max Eberl. “SpVgg Unterhaching would like to establish itself as a down-to-earth, economically sound professional club in the medium term. We want to accompany the club on this path.”

There will also be ongoing test matches between the youth teams. The clubs’ scouting departments should coordinate their screenings with one another in the future, and players from both clubs should be given the opportunity to change clubs internally as part of individual support. In addition to SpVgg Unterhaching, SpVgg Landshut, FT Gern, VfL Kaufering, SV Manching and SV Schloßberg-Stephanskirchen are already part of the regional partner club network of the FC Bayern Campus in the basic area.

Looking back, national coach Julian Nagelsmann has mixed feelings about his time at FC Bayern. “I would say that I did a lot of things quite well, but I also know that I would do things differently today,” said the 37-year-old at the International Sporting Goods Fair (Ispo) in Munich. But he could “still live well with it.”

Nagelsmann took over the German record champions for the 2021/22 season and signed with the club until 2026, but was released after less than two seasons. “You should go your own way and if you’re no longer the right person from the point of view of those responsible, you can live with it. If you’re just a puppet and then you’re fired, it’s much more difficult for you,” said Nagelsmann: “I am “I think we came out of the situation better than Bayern themselves.”

At “a big club” like Bayern, there are “always political trends.” You have to take this into account, but you shouldn’t let it deter you. I’ve learned that things in such a big club are seen as outstanding on Monday and are no longer worth anything on a Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has been voted the best goalkeeper of 2024 by Italy’s largest football gaming association. The 35-year-old Swiss, who was previously under contract with FC Bayern, played a key role in his team’s championship triumph last season with 19 clean sheets in 34 appearances for Inter Milan.

Sommer himself was thrilled about the award. “I am very happy and proud to receive this award. I thank everyone who voted for me, this is a special moment for me,” Inter Milan’s website quoted him as saying.

Normally, the Allianz Arena in Munich lights up in the red of FC Bayern when the German record champions play. But this Tuesday, during Bayern’s duel with Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Cup, fans of coach Vincent Kompany’s team are treated to an unusual sight: the stadium shines in a strong purple.
