FC Basel parts ways with coach Heiko Vogel

The top Swiss football club FC Basel has reacted again “due to the worsening sporting crisis” and made the next coaching change.

The 20-time champion separated from his German coach and sports director Heiko Vogel.

His successor will be Fabio Celestini, who signed until the end of the season on his 48th birthday. The former Swiss international worked for FC Sion until the end of February, which was relegated to the second division last season.

Vogel (47) took over the coaching position from his German colleague Timo Schultz (46) just a month ago, but was unable to stop the downward trend.

FCB is bottom of the Super League table with just one win from eleven games. Five points separate the club from second-to-last, newly promoted FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy.
