Ferran Torres has been with FC Barcelona for two weeks. But so far the Spaniard has only been allowed to train because he has not yet been registered. To make up for that, the club took an atypical route.
Samuel Umtiti only made one league game for FC Barcelona this year. The central defender has only been outside for several years. Nevertheless, the Frenchman has signed a new contract until 2026. His previous one was valid until 2023. The reason for the strange contract extension: Ferran Torres. There was still no license from the league for the transfer of the Spanish king, as Barça, with a debt of over 1.35 billion euros, first had to comply with the rules of financial fair play.
That has now been made up for. With the departure of Alex Collado (on loan to Granada) and Philippe Coutinho (on loan to Aston Villa) some relief was provided. The new Umtiti contract has now completed these plans, because the 2018 world champion accepts a cut in salary. This allowed Barcelona to register new signing Torres, according to their own information. The club thanked Umtiti expressly for the “willingness and affection for the club”.
