FC Barcelona offered Ousmane Dembélé as a swap at PSG

No solution by transfer deadline?

“Ousmane Dembélé has to leave the club as soon as possible,” said managing director Mateu Alemany eleven days ago. Not much has happened since then: the 24-year-old is still at FC Barcelona at the start of Deadline Day. The search for a buyer has so far been unsuccessful. In their desperate efforts, the Catalans even offered the offensive player to Paris Saint-Germain, although the relationship between the two clubs has been broken for years due to several disputes, including Neymar (29).

Since talks about extending the expiring contract failed, Barça have been trying to find a club that will sign Dembélé right now. For the third most expensive player in football history, who has only played 129 games for Blaugrana since leaving BVB in the summer of 2017 due to injury, in which he scored 54 goals, there is a transfer fee of 20 million euros.

Barça have tried to start negotiations with Premier League clubs Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, but this has not been successful. Therefore, as reported by several media such as the “L’Equipe“Agreed, the Catalans were now looking for contact with PSG, which, according to the Sportzeitung, was not made directly but through an intermediary.

FC Barcelona spoke unsuccessfully to PSG about swapping Dembélé

No transfer fee is said to have been put on the table in the course of the talks, as PSG would first have to sell players for a transfer and are not prepared to invest in the squad in winter. Therefore, it should have been about a possible player exchange between the two clubs. The names of important players fell on both sides. The Barça journalist Gerard Romero reports, for example, that Mauro Icardi (28) was traded as an object of exchange for Dembélé.

But the talks with PSG were reportedly not long-lasting either. “I don’t expect anything for the last day,” PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino said at a press conference on Saturday. “I’m very happy with what I have.” Although FC Barcelona will certainly try to find a solution to Dembélé up to the last second, the probability that the 2018 world champion will still go is “low”, balances the “L’Équipe”.

The attacker is threatened with the stands for six months and Barça with a free departure. Man United and Chelsea are said to be interested in signing next summer, while England is Dembélé’s dream destination.
