The Spanish LaLiga is refusing to allow FC Barcelona to register European champion Dani Olmo for the rest of the season. The reason for the decision is the Catalans’ financial problems. FC Barcelona had not presented an alternative to meet the conditions for registration, the league announced a few hours before the turn of the year. A new license for striker Pau Víctor (23) was also rejected.
Barça had previously tried in vain to force registration in court. Media reported that FC Barcelona was trying to raise 100 million euros from the sale of VIP boxes in the modernized Camp Nou stadium to an Arab investment fund in order to solve the problem. However, LaLiga did not give the green light as not all guarantees for the payment of these contracts were said to have been in place.
Agent: Olmo wants to stay at FC Barcelona
What will happen next with Olmo remains to be seen. Without registration, he is no longer part of the squad and, thanks to a corresponding contractual clause, can move on for free. FC Barcelona, where former national coach Hansi Flick has been the coach since this season, said it has applied to the Spanish Football Association for a license for Olmo and Víctor.
At the same time, before the LaLiga decision, the Catalan club denied in a statement that it had received a moratorium on registration from another body. The newspaper “Mundo Sports” wrote, citing association sources, that no association license could be applied for without the league’s consent. However, FC Barcelona is still trying to achieve registration in the transfer period, which lasts until the beginning of February.
Barça signed Olmo from RB Leipzig for 55 million euros in the summer. The 26-year-old received a contract until June 2030, his agent Andy Bara told the transfer expert Fabrizio RomanoOlmo wants to stay at Barcelona. He made this decision because he wanted to play for Barça. “We are not considering any other option,” emphasized Bara.
Loud “Mundo SportsBut other top clubs have long since positioned themselves. In addition to the Big Six from the Premier League including Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Tottenham, the German championship contenders FC Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen are also among those interested. Former club RB also makes no secret of the fact that Leipzig will always be its home.
