The financial difficulties at FC Barcelona are entering the next round. In order to register new players, the club probably needs the help of its stars.
FC Barcelona are reportedly asking star defender Gerard Piqué to accept a lower salary. According to journalist Gerard Romero, the Catalans’ club bosses have already held talks with the Spaniard’s agents. The salary reduction is intended to help register new players. Because so far, not all transfers in the league should be on the pitch. Barça’s salary structure – coupled with billions in debt – is not yet economically sustainable enough for this.
Last year, among other things, Piqué accepted a salary reduction in order to be able to register players like Eric Garcia. Piqué’s salary is said to be over 20 million euros. As early as June, the newspaper “Sport” reported that Barça had asked its three captains (Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets) to resign, but they refused.
