Barça has announced that it will accelerate the remodeling deadlines of the Spotify Camp Nou. At the same time, The club has announced that the works of the Spotify Camp Nou are advancing with a partial demolition of the third tier, coinciding with the break of the Qatar World Cup. The works will begin on September 1st, will end at the end of December and will affect 3,182 season ticket holders in Gol Sur, who will be relocated or offered a temporary moratorium.

This is how the club announced it:

“The Club will accelerate the remodeling works of the Spotify Camp Nou, epicenter of the Espai Barça, taking advantage of the break in the League championship for the World Cup in Qatar, scheduled for the months of November and December.

The actions will consist of the demolition of the outer ring, the cantilever that protrudes from the façade of the South Goal (where the Health Assistance Center was located), and half of the third tier of the same Goal, part of which acts as a counterweight. The demolition will be done by the traditional system, through mechanical means, and the preliminary work to prepare the area will begin on September 1, with the dismantling of equipment and facilities, of the restaurant areas, of seats and accessories. , of railings and beams, and with the removal of the electronic video scoreboard of the South Goal.

This action will save time in a complex and large-scale project and will be very useful to start verifying processes and speed of the new construction, in view of the bulk of the works planned for the 2023/24 season, where sports practice will be displaced to the Lluís Companys Stadium on Montjuïc. In this sense, it has been decided to start the remodeling works of the Spotify Camp Nou in this area of the South Goal because it will be the entry point for all the telecommunications of the future stadium and where all the technological connections will be built, which will facilitate the continuity of the thickness of the works of the next season.

Works are scheduled to be completed around December 31. In the coming weeks, the works will be tendered, which will have a maximum cost of 4.6 million euros and will be assumed within the framework of the bridging loan signed last summer.

Different affectations

The works will affect 3,782 localities of the South Goal, mainly third tier, which will disappear, of which 3,182 correspond to season ticket holders, who will be relocated to similar areas or will be offered a temporary moratorium on the payment of the season ticket .

As for the second tier, 1,215 subscribers, located between entrances 315 and 322, will go from having a covered seat to an uncovered seat and the Club will adjust the corresponding price.

They will also affect six VIP boxes in the second tier and the area where the opposing fans are usually located.

The works will be concentrated between gates 34 and 46, and between entrances 521 and 422, and once the partial demolition of the third tier is completed, pillars will be built, foundation work will be carried out, and new stairs and evacuation routes will be built for doors 315 to 322, and for openings 01 to 021, 116 to 121 and 211 to 221.

Other works already in progress

Although the partial demolition works of the third tier of the South Goal will be the most important to be carried out during the 2022/23 season, since this month of July other actions are being carried out in accordance with the building license approved at the end of April by the Government Commission of the City Council. These are the works that affect both the exterior and interior of the Spotify Camp Nou, the technological field, as well as the surroundings of the Stadium and the exterior urbanization.

Currently, the temporary transfer of the systems and technology infrastructure (CPD) is being carried out to new technical rooms located in areas that will not be affected during the construction and remodeling works of the future Camp Nou, as is the case of the car park of the Service Office al Barcelonista (OAB) or the basement of the 1899 Auditorium. Likewise, work is being done together with the operators on the deployment of a new connectivity in the Stadium to minimize the risk and impact of services to members, fans, corporate services and technology applied to sport.

Also in progress is the transfer of the warehouse of the Lateral grandstand on the lower floor of the OAB, as well as security actions in the third tier, placing protection nets and also repairing some pathologies. All these actions are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

Start of the second phase of exterior urbanization works

At the same time, around the Stadium there are also ongoing actions related to the Modification of the General Metropolitan Plan and, in this sense, the second phase of the urbanization works of Menéndez Pelayo street has already begun. This is one of the actions derived from the new planning of the area and the urbanization project worked on jointly by the Club and the Barcelona City Council, the neighborhood and surrounding entities to create a large open space around the Stadium, remove the outer fence and the unevenness that there are now and renovate and widen the surrounding streets to reorganize road and pedestrian access.

With the reform of Menéndez Pelayo, more than 22,000 m2 will be intervened, of which more than 4,000 will be green areas. There will be a traffic lane in each direction and a service cordon, and the sidewalks will be wide and will be an important novelty, since they currently do not exist next to the cemetery. New street furniture will be installed, 21 three-meter-long wooden benches and 16 60-centimeter wooden chairs, as well as a new lighting system that is more efficient and performs better than the current one. A total of 65 trees will also be placed.

Sustainable mobility with a new bike lane

To promote sustainable mobility, a new bike lane will be built along the entire street that will join the one on Avinguda de Joan XXIII. In addition, the bike lane will be extended through the avenue and up to Plaza de Pius XII, so the connection from Menéndez Pelayo will reach Diagonal. Adaptations will also be made to the roundabout on Avenida Joan XXIII and Menéndez Pelayo, with a new geometry that will favor the circulation of vehicles, and a landscaped strip will be completed next to the Masía, and the work on the avenue will thus be considered complete. Joan XXIII”.
