Frenkie de Jong played the entire game again, after he received a lot of compliments in the Spanish press after his performance against Villarreal last Thursday. Barcelona is on a nice goal difference of 28-4 after eleven competition matches. Three of the four conceded goals came in last Sunday’s El Clásico, which Real Madrid (goal difference 28-9) won 3-1. Carlo Ancelotti’s team continued that important victory last week with victories over Elche (0-3) and Sevilla (3-1).

So Barcelona did what it had to do tonight to keep up with Real Madrid. The game was decided after more than 20 minutes. FC Barcelona already led 3-0 after goals from Ousmane Dembélé, Sergi Roberto and Robert Lewandowski. Dembélé provided the assist for both the 2-0 and 3-0.

It was Lewandowski’s twelfth goal of the season. The Pole lashed out hard with the left after he was nicely turned away from opponent Óscar De Marcos.

In the second half, the home side took it easy and only Ferran Torres managed to score in the 73rd minute. Again Dembélé was the declarant.

At Barça, Gavi dropped out after more than half an hour with an upper leg injury. He was replaced by Franck Kessié from Ivory Coast.

In three days FC Barcelona awaits the home match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The Catalans have only four points after four matches and are third in the group. It is still possible to overtake number two Inter, but then everything has to go well in the last two rounds.
