Augsburg’s record player

Ex-Bundesliga professional Daniel Baier could play for SpVgg Niedernberg in the district league under his father Jürgen in the future. What initially seemed like an April Fool’s joke could now become reality. At least that’s what a recent report suggests. The 41-year-old Baier is a record player for FC Augsburg and has been working as a sports coordinator at RB Leipzig since February 2025.

“It feels like we’ve come full circle. Dani was impressed with the idea from the start. Now those responsible have been able to wrap everything up. The ink is dry,” Jürgen Baier was quoted as saying in a club statement. He confirmed to the “Kicker” on April 2nd: “He’s on fire, but to say he’s playing for us from now on would be a bit too much. He has his passport with us. And when he’s there, then he’ll play for us. If I let him,” said Jürgen Baier with a laugh.

Son Daniel again explained: “Family is the most important thing for me. When my father approached me, it quickly became clear to me what I was doing. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience to this great club.”
