The three-year-old girl who was run over by a motorist on Maasstraat in Amsterdam’s Rivierenbuurt on Wednesday morning is in hospital with broken bones, among other things, but is doing well given the circumstances. “We are hopeful that she will recover completely,” says her father, who will be in touch this weekend AT5 sought to inform Amsterdammers. The father says he is grateful for all the support the family has received in recent days.
The girl suffered fractures in her leg and ribs, among other things. She is still in the hospital. “She had an accident,” says her father, “But she is doing wonderfully well now. We are hopeful that she will make a full recovery.”
Pedestrian crossing
The girl was walking through the neighborhood with her mother when they crossed at a zebra crossing. A motorist, who seemed to be waiting for her, suddenly accelerated and hit the girl, eyewitnesses said shortly after the incident. AT5. Then the driver drove on.
The parents emphasize that the girl was not hit, but was run over by the car. The police suspect that this was indeed the case, a spokesman said.
Not much later, the police on Beethovenstraat arrested an 89-year-old woman. She was detained for a day, but has since been released. However, the woman’s driver’s license has been confiscated and she remains a suspect in the case.

Many people who saw the accident immediately jumped to the rescue, says the girl’s father. He is also grateful for all the support the family has received from the neighbourhood. “For example, we received many cards and sweet gifts. It is very special to notice how people sympathize.”
