Minister Hermans of Climate and Green Growth sends a change in the law to the Council of State to accelerate the expansion of the power grid. Due to shorter procedures, dozens of projects of up to 1.5 years can be accelerated in the coming years. As a result, there is more room for new residential areas and companies that want to grow or make it more sustainable.

Prevent delay in research

The power grid must be considerably expanded throughout the Netherlands. For this, the network operator must first conduct research on location, such as soil measurements and soil research. This type of research is often short -lived and generally has little to no impact on the ground. If a landowner does not give permission to do research, this can lead to a lot of delay, because the network operator must first go through long procedures.

With this amendment to the law, these procedures are deleted and there is a standard obligation to tolerate research activities as standard. Depending on the situation, this can prevent 2 months to 1.5 years in delay.

Minister Hermans: “We cannot expand residential areas without electricity and companies cannot grow. We have to get rid of the many years of procedures that stop that. That is really faster, this proposal is a first step. “

Speed for energy projects

This amendment to the law is one of the steps that Minister Hermans takes to speed up the expansion of the power grid. The minister is also working on a change to designate extensions of the power grid as projects of ‘compelling social interest’. This can also result in acceleration up to 1.5 years.

The amendment was sent to the Council of State today for advice. The next step is treatment by the Lower House. It is expected that the law change can enter into force in the mid -next year.
