Fashion expert Sami Sykkö describes the style of Finns

Sami Sykkö, who is part of the jury of the “Moodi huipuille” program, appreciates Finns’ sense of style.

Fashion expert and editor-in-chief of Fashion Finland Sami Sykkö says that he loves to look at elegantly dressed people. He does this especially when sitting in cafes.

But which things in Finns’ clothing does he pay special attention to?

During the phone interview, Sykkö spent time in the Kamppi shopping center. During the break of the conversation, he mentioned several passers-by, whose clothing caught the professional’s eye.

A lady dressed in a colorful jacket, stylish gentlemen in caps, and a group of young people, dressed in Sykö’s words “in a wonderful way”, hit the spot.

“Boys can wear pearls, nail polish and makeup”

The fashion expert feels that Finns invest more and more in dressing.

It’s great about Sykö that nowadays it’s more permissible to dress how you want.

– What pleases me about how Finns dress is that Finns are not narrow-minded when it comes to dressing, but we are open to new ideas and trends.

– Nowadays, even boys can wear pearls, nail polish and make-up, and hardly anyone is surprised by it. Such freer codes are only a good thing, he sums up.

Although many Finns dress in dark colors especially in autumn and winter, stylists dressed in colorful clothes get a lot of compliments.

– When I wear something colorful, I get a lot of encouraging feedback about it. It seems that people like it when their personality shows in their clothes.

At the moment, Finnish consumers and designers are very interested in sustainability. In particular, the expression of Finnish clothing designers shows limitless creativity.

– We live in interesting times, Sykkö rejoices.

Responsibility is manifested in clothing, for example, by preferring products from domestic brands and second hand.

“Sanna Marin is a really skilled dresser”

Among Finnish dressers, Sykkö mentions Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

– Sanna Marin is a really skilled dresser.

Sykkö, who is also a member of the jury of the Moodi huipuille program, feels that such role models are important.

Sanna Marin shows with her dressing that someone in a prominent position does not have to follow the same dress codes as others in the same position.

– This is how a new dress code is created, Sykkö rejoices.
