There are stacks of photos on the dining room table. Many images of famous Dutch people: Daphne Deckers as a top model for the magazine Married, André van Duin with his (deceased) partner Martin, Toon Hermans, Sonja Barend, model Sonja Bakker, Viola Holt and so on. Just about everyone who had a hand in the fashion and TV world over the last 40 years has been captured by Frits.
‘Nice head of hair’
Since Frits started his own business in 1969, he has built up an impressive oeuvre. He was involved in women’s magazines such as Viva, predecessor Eva, Story, Vriendin, Libelle and Margriet. But he also photographed many TV stars for the VARA broadcasting magazine. Think of Willem Ruis, Kees Brusse, Georgina Verbaan and a very young Gerard Joling from Schagen. “He still had nice hair then,” says Frits as he takes the photo of a young Joling out of the pile.
It is too much to mention and Frits and his wife Loes Piller built a warm bond with many celebrities. “We lived on the Leidsegracht in Amsterdam at the time. We were actually neighbors of André van Duin and his friend Martin. And we also have all kinds of contacts here in Blaricum. Eating a stew with Willeke Alberti. Nice.”
