Farmers place toll gates against ‘tourist terror’ in Italian Dolomites: “We are not an amusement park”

They come with thousands at the same time. On slippers, armed with smartphones and drones, tourists walk up along narrow mountain paths, looking for the perfect snapshot. But where the Dolomites once symbolized silence and majestic tranquility, today the chaos of mass tourism prevails. And the local farmers? They are tired of it. Moegermerged. Their meadows are completely flattened, they say. And so they have installed toll gates: five euros per person. No ticket, no view.
