Farmers ignore Schiphol, yet the Marechaussee remains alert to tractors

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee at Schiphol will take into account possible farmers’ protests at the airport for the rest of the afternoon and evening. According to a spokesperson, preventive vehicles have been placed in and around Schiphol, such as shovels, buses of the Assistance Unit (BE) and Volkswagen Amaroks. With the exception of a handful of sympathizers, no farmers with tractors have been near Schiphol.

The shovels and Assistance Unit buses are centrally located at Schiphol Plaza, so that they can be pulled out immediately if farmers with tractors approach the airport. The Marechaussee has also placed vehicles and road narrowings on the provincial roads to Schiphol and at the Queen Maxima Barracks.

Although no tractor has yet been spotted in the vicinity of Schiphol, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee remains alert to farmers’ protests aimed at the airport. It may only be possible to scale down in a few days, due to the unpredictability of the farmers.

At Schiphol Plaza a few sympathizers − recognizable by the red handkerchiefs came to look at shovels and buses of the military police, but they did not stay long.
