Farmers fear that the trade agreement will lead to unfair competition. According to them, countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay could export cheap beef, chicken and sugar to Europe without having to meet the same strict standards as European farmers. “We are not asking for protection, but we do ask for a level playing field,” say the activists.
