For Mick Schumacher, his time with the Alpine racing team in the Endurance World Championship (WEC) could actually end at the end of the year. The team has now announced the signing of a top new signing.

Antonio Felix da Costa will drive for Alpine in the WEC from 2026, as the French officially confirmed on Tuesday afternoon. He will receive a multi-year contract, according to the statement.

“I am very pleased to be joining the Alpine Endurance Team,” the 34-year-old Portuguese is quoted as saying: “Returning to the World Endurance Championship was one of my main goals, and it is a great pleasure for me to do this with a manufacturer that has boldly and ambitiously redefined itself and is now at the forefront of endurance racing.”

Da Costa achieved 26th place at Le Mans this year with AF Corse; he last raced as a regular driver in the WEC in 2023, back then for the Jota team. In 2022 he even took class victory. At the same time, the veteran is racing in Formula E, which he won in 2019/20. He also has experience in the DTM, having driven for BMW for three years between 2014 and 2016. Alpine therefore presents da Costa as “one of the most complete riders of his generation”.

What’s next for Mick Schumacher?

Felix da Costa will continue to drive in Formula E next year, switching from Porsche to the Jaguar factory team next season. Because the calendars of both series have no overlapping dates, a double program is possible without any problems.

With the signing of Felix da Costa, Mick Schumacher’s time at Alpine could come to an end, although it has not yet been officially confirmed with whom the new addition will pilot. The former Formula 1 driver’s contract expires in the summer, and a move to the Indy Car Series recently seemed to be a top option.

Schumacher had successfully completed his first test drives in the USA and was extremely impressed afterwards. Nevertheless, he made it clear that he had not yet made a decision about his future.
