Farewell to club icon De Waard by cycling with supporters from IJmuiden to Maastricht

Club icon Pieter de Waard says goodbye after 17 years as chairman of football association Telstar. Dozens of supporters cycle to Maastricht together with De Waard for the last away match of the season against MVV. They cycle more than 230 kilometers in two days. At the kick-off of the cycling tour, Pieter de Waard says about his future to reporter Koen Bugter that he will not sit behind the geraniums: “Money has to come in to keep the De Waard family running. As it looks now, I want three months as a waiter on the beach of IJmuiden. After that I want to drive a forklift truck in a warehouse for five months. That’s how I once started my working life. In addition, I want to give my communication agency hands and feet again.”

Supporter in heart and soul

The football club from IJmuiden will really have to continue without De Waard. “Telstar, I will not visit for a season, but after that I look forward to being a supporter in heart and soul,” said the retiring chairman.
